Don’t let anyone tell you pine won’t make a good cutting board. Many chefs prefer pine—since the wood is softer, it is easier on expensive knives.
Pine is soft, but it takes knife wear very well. It is the dings and bumps that can do the most damage to a pine block. This is just as much a forever block as an oak or walnut would be.
